Well...So I figured there was nothing else I had to post up here....
Say hi to the Monkey!!
Physical
Monkey is a ring tailed lemur and quite self satisfied, even though he looks like he’s been thrown into a blender a couple times. Patches of fur are missing and his right forelimb has been injured badly enough in the past to create a significant weakness to it. He keeps it held close to his body. His originally two foot long tail is missing a few inches at the end from some fight he undoubtedly started, but he’s still quite proud of it and holds it up high. The little guy looks rather emaciated, though he has a fondness for stuffing his face when he gets the chance, so he often has a fat belly under visible ribs. Color wise, Monkey is mostly gray with a white under belly. His tail is white with black rings. His face exhibits black splotches on his muzzle and eyes. His eyes themselves are large, expressive, and a striking yellow-brown color. The only other distinguishing mark is an odd scar on the palm of his good hand.
Personality
First and foremost, Monkey is a disagreeable little cuss. He’s loud, obnoxious, and just plain stubborn about whatever he chooses to be at the moment. He doesn’t suffer fools gladly and would much rather ignore just about anyone who isn’t feeding him. When he’s unhappy, he damn well makes sure everyone else knows it with loud shrieking, running around wildly, and jumping on the nearest person to yell in their face, if he hasn’t bitten them first. He’s NOT nice and doesn’t even try to be. Picking a fight is not uncommon, especially with an enemy that seems destined to defeat him.
Monkey is quite intelligent, though he hides it under loads of disgruntle behavior. He’s probably smarter than most people you’d come across. Not that he cares what anyone thinks of him. Humans, he’s decided, are the oddest, most infuriating things on the planet, but he hangs out with them because they tend to keep him well fed. He very much enjoys being fed. Most people, Monkey ignores for lack of interest. The captain he treats with open distain, as he believes he is the true source of ANY of the captain’s ideas, though he makes himself less of a disgruntled nuisance for the man through simple courtesy. He’d much rather hang around the Juju lady, sitting perched on her shoulder while she amuses him. She’s probably the only one to have heard him purr.
As most arboreal creatures, Monkey is happiest high up in the air. As there are no trees around at sea, he amuses himself by climbing along the sails and rigging and doing dizzying acrobatic feats through them. When he isn’t up so high, he comforts himself by sitting on people’s shoulders or their heads, or hats for that matter. Whether his fluffy and long tail annoys them or not is none of his concern. He reacts quickly and brutally to any slight to himself.
Background
Monkey started his life as all his kin in Madagascar. He was quite young when he was trapped by a hunter and imported to Europe to be sold as an exotic specimen. Fortunately, the little lemur was picked up by a scholarly fellow who wanted a companion. Monkey liked him well enough, so much that he generally wasn’t a little bastard to the guy, though no one else earned such a right. Monkey and the scholar were happy together. It was through the scholar that Monkey learned about humans and their behavior, listening and learning to understand his words. Monkey eventually grew to understand full conversations and think his own thoughts about them.
Through their travels, Monkey grew more bastardly and aggressive towards everyone but the scholar. He attacked whatever he pleased and gained the scars to prove it, but he was happy enough and quite proud of himself. The scholar was more exasperated and told him so. One day, a ship he and the scholar sailed on was attacked on route and the crew killed as their cargo was plundered. The scholar was killed as well and Monkey found himself thrown into a life without the good man. He was quite bitter about it and made his displeasure known by mistreating anyone unfortunate enough to gain his attention. He continued to do so ever after, no matter what ship he was pawned onto. It’s amazing he’s lived so long.
